My mother is very happy here. There are lots of activities for them to participate in. She says they do lots to keep your mind sharp! Everyone is very kind, considerate and helpful. We are very pleased here.

My brother suffered a stroke and lost his ability to walk and talk, making this period extremely challenging for him. A social worker at Summit praised McKendree as an excellent recovery facility, which led me to trust her recommendation. However, upon arrival, while the skilled nursing room was decent, the care provided was subpar. He experienced several falls, his medications were mismanaged, and we received no updates on his recovery progress. No physical therapy was provided for months, and shockingly, a speech therapist incorrectly claimed that speech, physical, and occupational therapies were identical.

After surgery at Summit, he was transferred to McKendree via ambulance and distressingly left outside alone for over 20 minutes on a cool night, dressed only in shorts and a t-shirt. With his right side unusable, his left arm recovering from surgery, and his wheelchair locked, he was immobile. The administration did not inform the family of his situation; I was only made aware because an acquaintance from the agency contacted me to help calm him down once inside the facility. I am urgently seeking to relocate him as the current care is not conducive to his recovery.

The long-term care side is in disrepair, with a damaged air vent, walls marred by holes and deep scratches, and a lack of cleaning. This has been one of the most distressing experiences for my family. It's disheartening to see the lack of respect and dignity afforded to patients. Despite frequent visits, I often find my brother left in bed wearing only a diaper. While a few CNAs show care and provide bathing, the overall attitude towards patient care is negligent. It's deeply upsetting to witness the treatment of patients here. I am determined to move him to a new facility to ensure he receives the care he needs and deserves.

This facility was very rude and abrasive. I was scheduled for a tour and before I was able to view I received a call from a very rude and unempathetic employee who informed me I would be waiting my time. I have been looking for a place for my mom to move from NY with her increased needs medically. You would think the staff would be more empathetic to the people in their community and show more understanding instead of brushing people off and leaving them feeling terrible. If this is how they treat people I can not image how they would treat a loved one. I was very disappointed. I never write reviews but this is an exception. I think it's important for people to know how this facility treats people.

I have recently referred two friends to McKendree because I am so impressed by the options and services offered there. I have had other friends who lived in the cottages there and were involved in the various activities available in other parts of the facility. In early 1994 my boyfriend's father was a patient there and received very good care. There were other friends of mine who lived there as a couple. I would recommend McKendree based on these situations.

Beautiful large campus that provides many of the community’s needs ranging from assisted/independent living, therapy rehabilitation to the more in depth long term care services. The activities department always has something entertaining planned for the residents. Recommend calling and setting up your tour so you can see for yourself!
